My leadership model is simple and time-tested:

  1. Strategy is clear and compelling.

  2. Values aligned to strategy

  3. E2: Intense focus on Execution and the Edge to make crisp yes/no decisions.

Values are at the heart of leadership. Mine are:

Respect

Everyone deserves and gets respect.  Customers, partners, employees, adversaries…..everyone.

Alignment

Systems and architectures are at the core of every great product and business. Alignment makes systems work. It optimizes execution speed and, while sometimes hard to execute, is the only path to long term success.

Competing

Drives excellence every day. Benchmark to the best. Build plans to beat them. Execute, learn, tune processes, and do it again. I practice this process in my business, my racing and leading teams.

Simplify

Complexity in products and organizations kills efficiency, innovation, speed, and ultimately just isn’t any fun! A constant focus on simplifying is how I deal with the challenge to do more, faster.

Question the Status Quo

If I learned one thing at Berkeley, it is the best innovations start with understanding diverse ideas and questioning the status quo.
